SoCal Cyber Cup Grant Kick Off Meeting

Purpose: An initial kick off meeting to introduce everyone, review the scope of the grant, and to create some working groups

2:10pm-2:25pm – Grant overview – Chris Simpson

2:25pm-2:35pm – SoCal Cyber Cup History – Lillian Maestas (NDIA)

  • Last year was the 12th year of the competition
  • Do not need to be restricted to the current 5 counties

2:35pm-2:45pm – Haiku Range Overview – Sentek Team 

  • The Haiku Cyber Range

2:45pm-3:00pm – Discussion and brainstorming to create initial working groups, create initial tasks


Notes:
  1. 20 Hours of training material to prepare the students for the competition
    • Focus on basic Security+ and Network+ skills
    • Each year there will be a theme
    • Carry over key material and adjust to support the theme
    • Use open source material
    • Need material for training the mentors (Train the Trainer)
  2. Develop and deliver:
    • Practice round
    • Qualifications round
    • Finals round
  3. Support community college competition hubs
  4. Host and support the finals competition
    • May be virtual this year
  5. Participation Goals
    •  Community College Teams (specific teams have not been identified at this moment)
    •  High school teams (specific teams have not been identified at this moment)
    •  Middle school teams (specific teams have not been identified at this moment)

  • Training for students

February 2021 (meet dates will take place every 2nd and 4th Saturday until Competition start)

  • Two-week practice round

March 2021 (meet dates will take place every 2nd and 4th Saturday until Competition start)

  • Qualification Round – Two-week window 

April 2021 (meet dates will take place every 2nd and 4th Saturday until Competition start)

  • Back-up Qualification Round  

May 2021 (meet dates will take place every 2nd and 4th Saturday until Competition start)

  • One day final round
